SHARP Annual Conference 2011

Each year SHARP holds an annual conference that brings many scholars together for stimulating discussion of an enormously wide range of issues. A complete list of our past conferences is seen at right.

The 18th Annual SHARP Conference, Book Culture from Below, was just held in Helsinki, Finland, August 17-21, 2010. An exciting program was presented. Check out Book History Up North, its related blog, which publishes news and reviews about book history events and publications in Finland and its neighboring countries.

The 19th Annual SHARP Conference, "The Book in Art and Science," will be held in Washington, DC, July 14-17, 2011. The Call for Papers has just been announced. More information will be released soon.

Conferences devoted to special themes and regions are also held under the aegis of SHARP, such as the very successful SHARP Copenhagen: "Published Words, Public Pages" conference in September 2008, whose program illuminated issues in the history of Nordic and Baltic Sea print culture. Coming up will be SHARP Brisbane: "The Long Twentieth Century", to be held April 28-30, 2011. A Call for Papers has just been issued.
