JOB SUMMARY:
NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.

This position is located in the Office of Digital Humanities, Office of the Chairman, Office of the Assistant Chairman for Programs, National Endowment for the Humanities. The function of the Office of Digital Humanities (ODH) is to advance excellence in humanities research, education, preservation and access, and public programs by supporting humanities projects that utilize or study the impact of digital technology. A particular area of interest is helping to build and support cyberinfrastructure – that is, the technology methods, techniques, tools, and networks necessary to support advanced research.

The position may be non-competitively extended up to 3-years.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

At the GS-11 level: A B.A. in a discipline of the humanities is required (an M.A. or Ph.D. is preferred). In addition to the basic education requirement, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience in the humanities equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example, one or more years of experience teaching classes related to the digital humanities, or one or more years of experience as an assistant team member on a grant-funded digital humanities project, or one or more years of experience as an assistant team member working on a digital library collection.

At the GS-12 level: A B.A. in a discipline of the humanities is required (an M.A. or Ph.D. is preferred). In addition to the basic education requirement, applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example, experience working for a year or more as a program analyst in a federal or private-sector grantmaking organization, or one or more years of experience as a team member on a grant-funded digital humanities project, or one or more years of experience as a team member working on a digital library collection.

At the GS-13 level: A B.A. in a discipline of the humanities is required (an M.A. or Ph.D. is preferred). In addition to the basic education requirement, applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example, experience working for a year or more as a program officer in a federal or private-sector grantmaking organization, or one or more years of experience leading a grant-funded digital humanities project, or one or more years of experience managing a digital library collection.

Selective Factor: In addition to the education and specialized experience required for this position, applicants must possess all of the following to be considered minimally qualified for the position: an advanced degree (masters or beyond) in a discipline relevant to the digital humanities (This would include advanced degrees in the humanities, library science, information science, or computer science).
